Reminds me of something I used to see when I started playing GW: "Teaching you how to make cash FAST, 2k!". I never tried, but I was told that the advice they gave was "to do the same". Made me lol.

someone sold me a customized FDS back when they were the coolest sword in the game. i realised afterwards and sold it on to someone else as nooby as me lol
one time someone scammed my friend for about 1k (cant remember how) so i just asked for his IGN, and PMed him saying something along the lines of "you scammed my friend and i want the money back" and he seemed genuinely scared and gave it me back straight away

The old...."First person to find me and open trade gets 10k!!!!!!!" spam. It wouldn't be so annoying if the kiddie wouldn't spam it every 2 seconds.
These people spamming it are almost always in Kaineng Center (the section reachable only thru the Divine Path) or Lion's Arch at the Lighthouse.
I was bored one evening so I actually tracked down one of them. He was in LA spamming the message every second. I checked the Lighthouse hill. Of course that's where he was. As soon as I came within his radar he left town. At least I stopped the spam.
So has anyone ever been paid by one of these kiddies?
|
i've actually been paid 75k by one of them. i was a little surprised about that

Another scam that's not so common (since it's now widely known) was where you would go stand under where glint's avatar would appear in Droknar's Forge, and do the "first person to touch me gets 1k" stuff. Only way to touch him was to do one of a couple of long-range dances, such as the female monk. Only one of about 20 people I caught doing that actually paid me the 1k.

>_< Neither of the two things posted above are scams. You don't lose anything (except a few minutes and some sanity perhaps ). Occasionally I do the "First person to trade with me gets a free item!" thing in Kamadan. I use a sugar item and run around, and eventually somebody gets me, so I give them a dedicated minipet or whatever I was giving away. Even if somebody says they'll give something away and in the end doesn't, as long as it doesn't cost you anything, it's simply a nuisance, not a scam.

I respectfully disagree. Glint squatters were scamming because they were cheating gullible people into thinking that they could get easy gold, then laughing in their faces. Maybe not a true scam, but it's downright mean.

Lol I remember way back then in droks when I was noob someone opened trade window randomly and put in 100k. I put in nothing and just accepted. Too bad I had gold in my inventory cause I dunno if he accepted or not.. it just said trade was canceled (I was noob too where I didn't care to look if he accepted, or maybe that feature was implemented later). Yeah not really a scam just a false sense of hope (like those 2 catch me if you can stories) but now I always dump my cash in case that ever happens again!

but the point is the armor itself is just for looks... Max armor is max armor. Get the cheapest you can and be happy with it cause going for anything expensive is a waste, as it nets you Zero benefit.
Everyone always berates me cause I walk around with 1k armor normally.. But to me it makes me no less powerful then the poor saps that wasted 100s or 1000s of K gold to get Fissure Armor or whatever...
To me THAT is the biggest scam in the game. As to the other stuff. Anyone making use of the trade button for ANYTHING is well deserving of getting scammed. All transactions should happen through the NPCs so the real values of things can be tracked legitimately. Short of that Nothing has any value at all. and never will.
Indeed, there is not 1 item not attainable by any n00blette with the time to waste trying to get it for themselves... And that is the reason there is NEVER a reason to trade with anyone for any reason. If you want something that bad go get it yourself. You'll be all the better for it for one key reason... You Actually Earned it!! and only then is it worth bragging over.
Even in the earliest betas, when the PvE world first opened up to us, we were all giddy over 1 gold coin. lol but it was a gold coin earned... cause we killed the thing that had it. The same is true today not matter what it be. There is no greater feeling then just going after what you want to have and getting it on your own.
|
Riiiight....and what do you spend your money on? In case you hadn't noticed, there's pretty much nothing else to spend it on but titles, armor, and weapons after a certain point.

That's more of a lie, really.
I just love these sorts of posts though, they make me smile that people care so much about the game that they bitch about every little detail <3
Once tried to get a run from Drok's to the Citadel, the guy ran off with my money (all 1k that I paid him). Pretty pathetic.

The most pathetic scamming attempt imo is when your in The Marketplace, and people are advertising "running to Kaineng Center 100g".
What a scam...

Well one thing I am guilty of by accident and not on purpose is this:
Back whent here was only prophecies and I was poor, I got the bleached shells and bleached carapaces mixed up in the desert. Some guy wanted to buy some carapaces, so I told him I had some and would trade. Turns out mine were shells, and he caught that before we traded.
Hope he didn't think I was a scammer, because it was an honest mistake...at least he caught it.

Why would he think you were scamming him? Bleached Shells are worth more, aren't they? Going for 1k each at one point. You could just enter Thirsty and kill the first few groups there for Carapaces.
Wait, is the another time that you're getting them confused?

It's not so much as scam, as it is annoying.
I always see people selling way over priced Murukai's weapons. That, and the occasional grubby bastard selling Thunderfist's Brass Knuckles for 10k!

Another thing that happened to me last year in Kamadan over the halloween event:
I saw this guy spamming "WTS Mini Wind Rider" and I, collecting mini's at that stage, (which I don't do anymore - ran outta storage, even with 10 toons in total, 4 main & 6 mules lol) was interested in it. So I whisp'd the dude, and he replied, "40K"
I just lol'd at him. I wasn't gonna pay that amount for a mini windrider.
Next minute he was next to me, and initiated the trade window. So I had a look at the pet anyways and saw that it was dedicated.
I laughed even more and told the guy to get lost, I'm not paying that for a dedicated pet. His reply:
